CORPORATE NEWS

Jas Saini appointed CEO of UDcast

UDcast has appointed Dr. Jas Saini to the position of Chief Executive Officer, effective May 1, 2007. Saini, a seasoned executive with more than 25 years of experience in the electronics industry, has previously held executive positions at NDS Ltd., Thomson Multimedia and Irdeto.

"UDcast is part of an exciting and fast growing sector and it is truly an honor to be entrusted with the responsibility of leading the management team of this extraordinary company. UDcast has taken an early lead in the sector by developing mobile TV enabling products to increase revenue for mobile operators. I look forward to leading the company into the next stage of its international development to become a world class player," says Saini, newly appointed CEO.

Saini is joining UDcast at a time of tremendous opportunity as the company continues to grow in the international marketplace and during a time when the success of Mobile TV industry relies heavily on solutions that create revenue. UDcast has been very successful in penetrating the international satellite and Mobile TV markets with customer wins and partnerships with the leaders. Saini will continue to focus on the international broadcast market and intends to take UDcast into the next phase of its international development.

NEW PRODUCTS

Precise cells synchronization for DVB-H Networks

The DVB-H network infrastructure will become even more efficient and robust, thanks to the innovative GPS-less MIP insertion mechanism. The precise and robust MIP insertion is essential for good functioning of all Single Frequency Mobile TV Networks. Thanks to the new solution, the DVB-H head-ends will require no longer any complex GPS antenna installations that can become a single point of failure for the entire system. Additionally, the new MIP insertion is integrated with a standard IP Encapsulator, sharing a common management system. The software based approach reduces the number of hardware components as well as cables and antennas in the already crowded head-end space, and offers a significant cost advantage over the alternative solutions.

The new IPE will be demonstrated at the BroadcastAsia show in Singapore (see events section).

Virus-free satellite communication

Thousands of new computer viruses appear every year. They are a critical threat to individual users, as well as large enterprises. According to the research published by the ICSA Labs, an average of 116 infections per month have been found in enterprises. The cost estimated for a virus infection is 73,000 pounds (107,000 Euro). The satellite IP communications enables long distance internet connections, but at the same time it can become a potential vector of virus propagation.

UDcast’s new version of UDgateway will be the first Satellite-dedicated acceleration appliance provding an advanced Antivirus scanner function. Thanks to the open license, the anti-virus agent upgrades regularly and free-of-charge with all new virus descriptions. Since the virus detection is located at the edge of the local network, it can be considered either as a critical additional security layer or as a powerful replacement for some of the expensive and often complex to maintain client-based solutions.

The Antivirus feature will be available starting from the end of June as a free upgrade to all existing UDgateway users, under the standard maintenance agreement. The product will be demonstrated at the Broadcast Asia show.

UDcast AMONG TOP FRENCH START-UPS

Following the Top 100 Europe award of the Red Herring magazine earlier this year, the French business magazine Usine Nouvelle recognized the UDcast for its vision, results and commitment to its customers as a ‘Start-up a decouvrir’ among and mentioned among the top 100 French start-up companies, and of one of the 14 companies in the telecommunications sector. The list has been published in its February’s issue of Usine Nouvelle and on the Usine Nouvelle’s website.
